Purple PittosporumAnother handsome member of foliage is Purple Pittosporum will provide seasonal changes to the garden scene. Growing 2.5-6 m tall and 1.5-2.5 m wide, this evergreen has a semi-erect growth habit and elegant black branching. New growth is soft garden gradually turning bronze/garden then becomes particularly impressive in winter when foliage finally turns glossy purple/black. Although less vigorous than variegated lemon-wood it does well in coastal area stands fairly hard frost, but needs shelter from severe winds. The foliage of lemon-wood varieties is prized for floral arrangements and they readily increase from cuttings taken in March/April and can be pruned yearly if wished.

Mature plants generally dislike being transplanted. A versatile shrub for landscaping situations, it can be used as screening, hedging in a pebble or Japanese garden as a container plant or bonsai subject. Shape as you wish and old bushes will soon recover if cut back heavily. Propagate from cutting taken most of the year. This plant can grow with other plants at the same time without disturbance of growth. But it would be nice if the plant is separated from other plants that will look more beautiful. Purple Pittosporum can be used as decoration in your house, with a height less than 0.5 m. You can plant in a small pot that has been decorated with unique pictures so it will look more naturally.
