To add the visual width of the room, the designer used plaster molding in a bold, beveled silhouette to frame the ceiling, and added a chair rail to divide the room to about a third of the wall height. The designer painted the walls a pale dove gray, darkened the color slightly below the chair rail to accent the division and painted the ceiling, now separated from the walls with the thick molding, a lighter shade of the shade color. To complete the garden look of the space, the designer used white, ceramic tile in a 20.3 cm sq (8 in) pattern and joined this to wall-to-wall gray carpeting in the living room beyond.
The tile has a textured finish that makes it slip-proof and easy to maintain. The final touches – a wood ceiling fan combined with a lighting fixture, potted trees and plants and simple contemporary furnishing – converted this plain space into a pleasant and individual dining room that leads to an outdoor garden. Additional accessories can make the room more elegant; mirrors in the home not only serve a utilitarian purpose but often make ornamental decorations for the home or the painstaking hand-beaded rose tapestry can be used both as a table decoration and as a wall decoration.
